A river of wine – still on today!
Wine festival and fireworks in the picturesque Nagymaros
20 August is a public holiday in Hungary, the day of our first king, Stephen, we celebrate the founding of our country. If you happen to stay in Budapest and would like to avoid the crowd (and the manifestation of the agricultural workers), go to the riverside town of Nagymaros, only a short drive from the capital. More than 20 wineries await wine enthusiasts, like Babarczi from Pannonhalma, Paulus from Mór or Vylyan from Villány.
“A river of wine – the river Danube unites us” – the organizers led by Helga Konczné Bulyovszki emphasize that the objective of the event is to revive the winemaking traditions of the Danube Bend region. This year, at the 7th edition of the event 5 wineries arrived from the two sides of the river: Borgarázs (from Dunabogdány), Heininger (from Nagymaros), Lingvay (from Vác), Rustica (from Szentendre), Galagonyás (from Esztergom) and Világi Winery (from Helemba, Slovakia).
The festival takes place in “Fő tér” (Main square) and on the bank of the river Danube.
