And the bulls keep fighting…

Two wine regions are allowed to make the world famous Bull’s Blood blend in Hungary, though as a consequence of the mass production of the communist era, Bull’s Blood is rather infamous, therefore now quality producers prefer using the Hungarian term ‘Bikavér’ to avoid wrong connotations. This Friday (6 March) visitors will have a chance to check if Szekszárd or Eger is superior over the other. ‘Bikavér Párbaj’ is a walk around tasting with 34 exhibitors, for example Eszterbauer, Szeleshát or János Németh from Szekszárd, Tóth Ferenc Winery, Kovács Nimród Winery or Thummerer Winery from Eger. Thummerer Winery’s Egri Bikavér Grand Superior is one of the best example of Bikavér. The 2012 vintage was selected the Best Red Wine by the Circle of Hungarian Wine Writers. The current vintage is 2015, it is a single vineyard wine from Nagy Eged. “Harvested with big yield limitation. On the Nagy-Eged vineyard, the varieties needed for the grand superior bikaver were planted on purpose at the same time in 2008. We harvested and fermented the 5 varieties (Kékfrankos, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Syrah, Kadarka) together and aged the wine in third-filled Hungarian oak barrels for 27 months.”

Tickets cost 6900 HUF / person (21 euros)
