Interview with Mirjam Marton, the creator of a brilliant project

The young and talented Mirjam Marton, the person in charge of Garamvári sparkling wines, offers help to those who are looking for a unique sparkling wine. She offers not less, but to guide the clients through the sparkling wine making procedure to create a bubbly to their own preferences. Are you planning to marry? Why not pouring your own sparkling wine at the wedding? Mirjam did the same with Mimi Blanc de Blancs at her own wedding, and now everyone has the chance to do so. BESPOKE is the only project in Hungary, which makes customers create their own sparkling wine, letting them make the most crucial decisions from the grape varieties to the label design.

The BESPOKE project in a nutshell

– No prior knowledge of wine is needed.
– The project begins with a personal meeting, where the clients get to know the sparkling wine process, and with Mirjam Marton winery engineer they discuss the needs and ideas.
– Then a contract is written with all the important details.
– The prices are calculated according to the personal needs, but generally the prices do not differ from the prices of the Garamvári sparkling wines in the range. (So, to get an idea of the price, check Garamvári webshop.)
– Clients can determine almost everything: the grape varieties of the base wine, the dosage, the label.
– The sparkling wines are aged and stored in the sparkling cellar of Garamvári in Budafok and they are delivered to the client when the wines are needed.
– The minimum order is 60 bottles.
– The process takes minimum 3-4 months.

– Do I remember correctly that BESPOKE project also started in 2023, when you took over the professional management of champagne production?
– The idea for BESPOKE itself was born in 2023, when we also launched Mimi Blanc de Blancs, but at that time it was just an idea. And yes, after they placed their trust in me to lead the professional side of sparkling wine production, I wanted us to be able to offer more than just the product itself. I wanted people to learn about this wonderful and complex process. That’s why BESPOKE was launched in November 2024, with my family and friends being a great help. In the year since then, we have produced at least one such sparkling wine every month, but more often than that, and we already have reservations for next year. Meanwhile I learned about different life paths, saw expressions of love, celebrations of perseverance, and friends rejoicing together. People’s personal stories fill these sparkling wines with life, and we are immensely proud that we are the only ones in Hungary who can provide a space for this.

– How did you come up with the idea for the project? Did you see examples of this elsewhere in the world or in Hungary?
– The idea for BESPOKE came from the joy I saw on the faces of our friends and family when they tasted our sparkling wine at the wedding and liked it. After hearing the story behind it, even those who hadn’t been big sparkling wine fans tried it. I realized that people want to know and hear not only about the product, but also the story behind it. They can relate to that and feel the same joy that we felt back then. I haven’t experienced this anywhere else in this form.
Of course, this is also due to the fact that we have been making sparkling wine for quite a long time, so we have the opportunity to work with different vintages, different varieties, or cuvée bases and create unique products. I am very proud that this would not have been possible without our family’s strong belief in sparkling wines, as my grandparents’ many years of work laid the foundation for this. This is the strength of our generation, and now it is bearing fruit in sparkling wine production.

– Could you mention one or two BESPOKE customers, anonymously of course, just to give us an idea of the occasion for which the champagne was made, what difficulties there might have been, and what made the collaboration particularly successful?

– We get a wide variety of requests. We have made sparkling wines for company anniversaries, weddings, wedding anniversaries, birthday gifts, surprises for friends, and celebrations of love. Some people just wanted to express that they had created something and manifested their pride in the wine. In fact, these joint projects are becoming more and more successful. At first, some people were a bit confused because they didn’t understand the process of making sparkling wine, but we start every BESPOKE with me explaining the procedure, showing them the bottles, the filling machine, the riddling racks, and the disgorging machine. This helps them understand how complex the process of sparkling wine production is and how valuable it will be when they can open their own méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine. So far, fortunately, everyone has left in high spirits and now sees sparkling wines in a different light.

– Where do your customers come from, and which channel do you find most effective? Facebook? Instagram? Website? Word of mouth? Perhaps some other channel?
– Quite a few people come to us through our own social media platforms, but we have also had people come to us through word of mouth and recommendations. Our Mimi Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine has also inspired many people. It’s a very creative and uplifting process, so it’s no wonder that from time to time I get carried away by a base wine, something new inspires me. One base wine enchanted me so much that it led to the creation of a new sparkling wine. That sparkling wine is Vivante!
