Grand Furmint Tasting in Budapest

Grand Furmint Tasting in Budapest

February was meant to be the month of Furmint, the flagship grape variety in Hungary. London Furmint campaign starts tomorrow (29 January) and lasts till the end of February, and of course the homeland of Furmint – Hungary – will host several events. The largest and most comprehensive tasting will take place on 6th February in Budapest, at its usual place, in the Museum of Agriculture in City Park. More than 200 Furmint wines will be poured by more than 90 wineries at the 11th Grand Furmint Tasting! Kovács Nimród Winery from Eger, Tornai Winery from Somló, Frigyes Bott from Muzsla (South Slovakia) and of course several wineries from Tokaj will participate, for example BéresVineyard and Winery, Zsirai Winery, Sauska estate, Chateau Dereszla, Grand Tokaj or Patricius Winery. This latter one, Patricius is celebrating its 20th birthday this year! Wine connoisseurs should keep an eye on them, because several tastings will be organized by the estate this year, and visiting the estate promises to be an unforgettable experience. „A walk through the vineyards with Péter Molnár, general manager and winemaker, is like reading a regional history book. Their approach is not just to make superb wines (they are succeeding better than well) but also to bring back long lost heritage grapes, vital but forgotten in the region” – write Signe Meirane Latvian food and wine writer after her recent visit at Patricius. It is highly recommended to follow her!
