Superb sweet and great red wines on display

This year 11 exhibitors will represent Hungary in Shanghai. The Asian palate prefers wines with some residual sugar, therefore Tokaj producers will get a warm welcome by locals. Three high quality wineries will show their excellent wines, let us recommend a wine from them.

Full list of Hungarian exhibitors

Grand Grand Tokaj Szamorodni, 2013

Szamorodni is a style to watch for: sweet (52 g/l sugar), some botrytised berries are used, but the price is much more reasonable than that of the Tokaji Aszú wines. „Elegant, noble botrytis notes on the nose resulting from barrel ageing with vanilla and citrus tones. Caramel creaminess, citrus freshness, refreshing, featherlight fruitiness on the palate. Vibrant, playful balance of acidity, sugar and alcohol. Great length with intensity in the finish.”

Zsirai Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos, 2008

Yes, a Tokaji Aszú from 2008 is still a young one. A good aszú can be kept for 20 years as well, its amazing acidity and sugar content will keep it. Zsirai aszú has a superb harmony, the 220 g / l sugar is perfectly balanced by the vivid acid structure. „On the nose it is clear, complex, concentrated – a typical Aszú. On the palate it is a youthful, vivid wine with dried fruits. A balanced, creamy textured great wine from a great vintage.”

Garamvári Tokaji Furmint Brut

Vencel Garamvári, owner of Garamvári Winery was the first winemaker to create a méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine of the indigenous grape Furmint. “Character-based fruitiness of the varietal can be sensed alongside the dynamic acids. Quince, citruses, mango tastes combined with sweet spices like cloves and cinnamon.”
