Eger Wine Meetup 2023 Hungary

Winemakers’ conference in Eger on 16–17 June

Sustainability, strategies of winery development, climate change and terroir

How to make “mineral wines” (winemaker’s ideas versus scientific facts). Special vineyard practices to improve quality. Biodynamic conversion of a large winery. These are some of the topics of the Eger conference for winemakers and viticulturists. Simultaneous translation is provided!

Eger Wine Meetup is the new name of the renewed wine and viticulture conference in Eger, which has been running for twenty years. The professional programme of the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University will take place over two days on 16-17 June and will cover sustainability, strategies of winery development, climate change and terroir.
The two-day conference will be structured in four thematic blocks. The first will focus on sustainability, showcasing a range of practical approaches from well-established domestic and international wineries that have taken significant steps to reduce their environmental impact. The second theme will take participants into the field of winery development, where they will be able to explore from different aspects how to take a winery to the next level both on domestic and foreign markets.

On the second day, the conference continues with the theme of climate change and practical responses to address this challenge, and then move on to the subject of terroir wines from the dual perspective of science and winemakers. On both days, there will also be masterclasses for those who want to complement their knowledge of the topics covered by the speakers with tasting experiences.

Excerpts from the press release about the conference

“When the conference for wine growers and winemakers was last held it was actually the twentieth such event. We felt that this anniversary was a great opportunity to open a new chapter in the life of the event. 2023 is a milestone in the history of our conference. In this spirit, we have chosen a new name: Eger Wine Meetup, which emphasises the importance we attach to meeting people in person and spending time together, in addition to the professional presentations.

It is an important objective of this event to reach out to young professionals who are still learning and the ones who already have some experience. We are committed to innovation, knowledge transfer and broadening horizons, and we are working for the development of the entire Hungarian viticulture and wine sector” – summarised Dr. Zoltán Kálmán Váczy, representing Eszterházy Károly Catholic University.

The speakers invited by the organisers are domestic and foreign specialists and researchers in viticulture, wine production, wine trade and market development, as well as internationally renowned, highly successful winery managers. The organizers hope that the speakers’ stories will provide inspiration and their expertise points of reference for winery managers who are looking on a daily basis for ways to improve and make progress.
